Context & Analysis


  • Total handle of $367.5M eased 4.4% below July's $384.2M, the second month of the summer floor before the football calendar takes over.
  • Parlay remained the largest wager category at $126.5M (34.4% of handle), well off July's 43.9% share as single-game baseball and football volume returned.
  • Baseball led all single-league categories at $80.4M (21.9%), the MLB pennant-race peak and the highest baseball month of 2026 so far.
  • Football climbed to $21.1M (5.7%), roughly triple July's $7.1M, as the NFL preseason and college openers brought early-season action.
  • Basketball rose to $34.8M (9.5%) on WNBA volume, up from July's off-season low of $28.4M.
  • DraftKings again led all operators at $130.4M in handle, with FanDuel second at $99.8M. The two leaders captured 62.6% of statewide handle.
  • Fanatics moved to the top of the mid-pack at $30.2M, edging bet365 ($28.6M) and BetMGM ($26.9M), which had led that group in July.
  • Caesars Sportsbook (under Harrah's Hoosier Park via the WilliamHill.com backend) was the standout grower, up 14.1% month-over-month to $19.0M in handle.
  • Operator hold eased to 9.97% from July's 10.43%, consistent with the lower parlay share.
  • August is the second month of Indiana's fiscal year 2027, lifting year-to-date handle to $751.7M.

Methodology & Source


All figures sourced directly from the Indiana Gaming Commission's "Summary of Wagering and Supplemental Tax" filings, published monthly at in.gov/igc. Handle includes both online and retail wagers, including bets placed on future events. Taxable Adjusted Gross Revenue is computed after payouts and adjustments. Indiana taxes sports-wagering AGR at 9.5%.

Operator-to-casino license mapping follows the IGC's "Detail of Sports Wagering Tax" page. A few operators (Caesars Sportsbook, theScore Bet) operate under different legal entity names than their consumer-facing brand — those mappings are noted in the table above.
